We are both a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) academy and a Yoga studio, offering separate classes of each. We believe that BJJ and Yoga are complimentary disciplines that fit together like yin and yang. We are located near the Bob Hope Airport in Burbank, CA.
Unlike other styles of martial arts which primarily involve kicking and striking, Brazlilian Jiu Jitsu emphasizes getting an opponent to the ground in order to utilize ground fighting techniques and submission holds such as joint locks and chokes. It also addresses every aspect of defense on the ground, including defending oneself from their back. Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, known to its practitioners as BJJ, is an evolved form of the traditional Japanese style of Jiu Jitsu. Jiu Jitsu, which translated means “the gentle art,” is just that. Brutality is not necessary to subdue your opponent. Leverage, carefully planned technique, and using your opponents own natural instincts against him will finish the fight. Learn more.

Yoga is a sanskrit word meaning union. This physical and spiritual practice aims to integrate the body, mind, and spirit through thoughtfully sequenced postures and breath. Originating in ancient India, the discipline has been practiced for literally thousands of years. Yoga has evolved since then and branched off into many different styles. Vinyasa yoga, the style taught at Force/Balance Brazilian Jiu Jitsu & Yoga, is a moving meditation in which each posture is linked with slow, smooth, deliberate breath. A regular yoga practice will likely cause relaxation, increased flexibility, strength and focus, while reducing the risk of injury. Learn more.

"As a former martial artist and instructor, I was absolutely impressed with the studio. If you are a martial artist, first and foremost, you will be astonished by the size and setup of the studio. It is roomy and certainly maintains the humility that is paramount to martial arts. For those who are yoga enthusiasts, the workout room certainly provides the right environment to find your center."

"I have been wanting to get my son into Jiu-Jitsu for some time now. He thinks it is so awesome and is very excited about going to class. I am also taking yoga with Michelle and I absolutely LOVE IT! It is exactly the type of yoga for me. The yoga room is super relaxing and is set up perfectly. The facilities are very well set up and brings a sense of calmness to you when there. I highly recommend them!"
